The company developed a privacy-first platform that transforms everyday photos and videos into cinematic, narrated stories, addressing the growing consumer need for meaningful digital memory preservation in an era where personal media remains fragmented across devices and applications.
The company faced a dual challenge that required both business innovation and technical sophistication. From a business perspective, the company needed to transform static, disconnected media collections into dynamic, narrated stories that could evolve into Netflix-style documentaries of users' lives over time. This vision demanded an automated storytelling product that delivered predictable costs, strict privacy controls, and the ability to scale to consumer-level demand while maintaining emotional resonance. The technical challenges were equally demanding. They required a mobile experience capable of converting user uploads into narrated, cinematic stories within minutes, not hours.
The architecture needed to enforce privacy by design, implementing short-lived URLs, KMS-encrypted storage, and least-privilege access across all data paths. Additionally, the platform had to support future extensibility, enabling aggregation of events across time into an evolving documentary with graph-based relationships and agentic experiences. Critical requirements included GDPR and CCPA compliance, explicit user consent mechanisms, data minimization principles, and comprehensive security controls including encryption in transit and at rest, private buckets, VPC endpoints, and continuous audit logging through CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
Traditional photo and video albums fail to assemble life events into coherent, emotionally resonant narratives, leaving personal histories scattered and underutilized.
